1 Easy Way to Quickly Recharge Your Mojo Even on the Craziest Days

"My Positivity Jar" photo by Nicole Antonio-GadsdonIt’s easy to get hoodwinked into squandering your time on energy sucking busy work. It’s easy to get distracted by the incessant pings and chatter of the social media to which you are hooked. (Or maybe, hooked on?)It’s easy to get bogged down by whingers, complainers and nay-Sayers - allowing them to side-track you from fulfilling your purpose. It’s hard not to feel swamped by the set-backs that can block your path to achieving your goals. It’s hard not to feel a little envious of friends and colleagues who seem to effortlessly scoot past obstacles on their fast-track to success. It’s hard to be positive when you feel stuck.I know those feelings all too well.I’ve been there – teetering dangerously on the edge of bitterness and disappointment. It is a constant battle. But you must not give in.Here’s what I do to help me stay on track and positive, even on the craziest days. Now it may sound like a serving of some New Age woo-woo; but it is working for me and it might help you too.

1 Super Simple Way to Celebrate the Positives Even on the Craziest Days

The Positivity Jar Project: Year 2I find setting goals a breeze; but staying on track and positive in the face of the inevitable setbacks on the road to success; now that’s a challenge.Last year  I stumbled across the 'gratitude jar' project idea and it inspired me to create my own version - a 'Positivity Jar'.My positivity jar is literally a jar which sits on my desk with these words taped to it.

"Starting NOW, I will fill this empty jar with notes about the good things that happen and great experiences I have shared as I chart a new course. 12 months from today, I will empty it and celebrate the unexpected, that wonderful things did happen and my journey was all the more rewarding for it.”

It’s easy-peasy to do. Scribble a quick note of something that you are thankful for or an image that inspires positive feelings. Pop them into the jar and start boosting your mojo with positivity. You get the best results when you practise this daily. It was my antidote to obsessing about making grandiose New Year resolutions that would surely be broken by the of 8th January. It was a remedy to ease my stressing about tracking and achieving my S.M.A.R.T objectives - that trusty old objectives setting framework of Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-Bound.In January of this year, 12 months after starting out on my positivity path, I emptied the jar.  Out tumbled notes of unexpected opportunities and planned wonderful things that happened last year. This bounty of abundance balanced my worry of what was lacking or not achieved. They reminded me that the hard slog through 2015 was actually filled with positivity and progress."Positivity Flow" photo by Nicole Antonio-GadsdonThe experience was worth it, so I decided to do the project again this year.I started January 2016 with an empty jar, ready to be filled with captured moments of 'positiveness'.Three months into the year and I am happy to report that a steady stream of notes are filling the Positivity Jar sitting on my desk. Why don’t you try it for yourself? See if it works for you. You will need:

  • 1 clean empty jam jar (other type – e.g. pickles etc.)
  • Glue or tape
  • Paper (coloured optional)
  • Scissors
  • Optional: Plain or decorative - your style, your choice.

First, start building your gratitude muscle. Every day write down at least 3 new things (more and you are really on a roll) you are grateful for.

“the brain needs novelty, the brain continually needs to find NEW things to feel grateful about […] Like meditation, it's not an event, it's a practice.” Via Gapingvoid

From finding a parking spot on a busy street to winning a new client; from sharing a delicious meal with great friends to starting a new project that has your creativity firing; from a simple cup of coffee to a beautiful sunset – these are moments to be savoured and captured in your jar.Whether you are in a crazy-busy or calm state, practise being thankful every day.By building your gratitude muscle, you increase your positive outlook. When you strengthen your positivity shield, you improve your chances of being able to sail swiftly beyond set-backs.James Altucher makes an even bolder statement  - "This 'grateful alchemy' will save your life". This is powerful positive stuff and it's yours for the taking - if you choose.Go on, have a go. You don’t have to wait for the New Year. You can start your own Positivity Jar at any time. What do you have to lose?Let me know how you get on. Drop a note in the comment box.
